01

Overview

Tic Tac Toe Darts is a game for exactly two players. Scorefly builds a 3×3 grid of dartboard targets. Players earn marks on cells, permanently capture cells by reaching three marks, and race to own a complete row, column, or diagonal.

02

Setup

  • Add exactly two players and choose the throwing order.
  • Scorefly selects eight unique numbers from 1–20.
  • The bull is always placed in the center cell.
  • The eight numbers and bull are arranged into the nine-cell grid for that match.

Both players use the same grid. The randomized targets make each new match a different route to three in a row.

03

Turn flow

  1. The current player chooses the cell they are aiming for.
  2. They throw and record a single, double, triple, bull, or miss for that cell.
  3. Scorefly adds marks only when the recorded segment matches that cell’s target.
  4. After three darts, play passes to the other player.

Choosing the cell matters: hitting a number elsewhere on the grid does not mark that other cell automatically. It is recorded as a miss for the selected cell.

04

Marks and captured cells

A matching single adds one mark, a matching double adds two, and a matching triple adds three. Marks are capped at three. The first player to reach three marks on a cell captures it.

Until a cell is captured, each player’s marks on it are tracked independently. One player’s hits never add to, remove, or replace the other player’s marks.

Captured cells are permanent for the rest of the match. The opponent cannot steal or reopen one, even if they later reach three marks on the same target.

The center bull follows the same mark system: single bull adds one mark and double bull adds two.

05

Winning

A player wins immediately after owning all three cells in any horizontal row, vertical column, or diagonal. There are eight possible winning lines.

Scorefly uses a 20-round cap. If neither player completes a line after both players finish the final round, the match is a draw; the number of captured cells does not break the tie.

06

Scorefly options

Tic Tac Toe Darts is included with Scorefly Plus. It always uses two players, three darts per turn, a randomized grid with bull in the center, permanent cell ownership, and the 20-round limit. There are no additional rule toggles on setup.

07

Worked example

Selected cell: 16

Current marks: Morgan has one mark on that cell.

  1. Morgan hits double 16.
  2. The double adds two marks, taking Morgan from one mark to three.
  3. Morgan captures the 16 cell permanently.

If that cell completes a row, column, or diagonal of Morgan’s captured cells, the match ends immediately.

Tic Tac Toe Darts FAQ

Can more than two people play?

No. Scorefly’s Tic Tac Toe Darts rules require exactly two players.

Can a triple capture a fresh cell?

Yes. A matching triple adds three marks and captures an unowned cell immediately.

Can the other player steal my cell?

No. The first capture is permanent for the rest of the match.

Who wins if nobody completes a line?

Nobody. Reaching the 20-round limit without a line produces a draw.
